Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.
I'm here today with the cover reveal for the third book in Kyra Lennon's fantastic NA Contemporary Romance Game On series, Sidelined.
Isn't it gorgeous?!
Title: Sidelined (Game On Book 3)
Author: Kyra Lennon
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 31st, 2014
Blurb:
At the age of twenty-one, Bree Collinson has more than she ever dreamed of. A handsome husband, a fancy house, and more shoes than Carrie Bradshaw and Imelda Marcos combined. But having everything handed to her isn’t the way Bree wants to live the rest of her life. When an idea to better herself pops into her head, she doesn’t expect her husband to question her, and keep her tied by her apron strings to the kitchen.
Isolated and unsure who to turn to, Bree finds herself falling back into a dangerous friendship, and developing feelings for the only person who really listens to her. Torn between her loyalty to her husband and her attraction to a man who has the perfect family she always wanted, she has some tough choices to make.
While Bree tries to figure out what she wants, a tragedy rocks the Westberg Warriors, triggering some dark memories, and pushing her to take a look at what’s really important.
Add Sidelined to your Goodreads 'to-be-read' list.
Sidelined is the third book in Kyra Lennon’s Game On series. Game On (Book 1) and Blindsided (Book 2) are available on Amazon and Smashwords.
About the Author:
Kyra is a self-confessed book-a-holic, and has been since she first learned to read. When she's not reading, you'll usually find her hanging out in coffee shops with her trusty laptop and/or her friends, or girling it up at the nearest shopping mall. And occasionally hanging out with rock stars, because that’s how she rolls!
Kyra grew up on the South Coast of England and refuses to move away from the seaside which provides massive inspiration for her novels. Her debut novel, Game On (New Adult Contemporary Romance), was released in July 2012, and she scored her first Amazon Top 20 listing with her New Adult novella, If I Let You Go in November.

Courage Blog Tour - Teaser Images: 5 Questions to Ask Before You Post
Today the multi-talented Carrie Butler is visiting as part of her Courage Blog Tour, to discuss to topics I find fascinating and think Carrie excels at - marketing and graphic design!
Take it away, Carrie!
Let’s start by making something clear: You
are a professional.
It’s true! If you’ve written something for publication, you’ve chosen to represent
yourself as such—even when it comes to support tasks. So, imagine this: After years
of working on your novel, it’s finally time to do a little promotion. You skim
over your social media feeds and notice a growing trend. Teaser graphics are
everywhere... and you want one.
Your next move is to spend hours poring
over stock sites until you find the perfect image. It would probably be
expensive to hire a designer, so you decide it’s best to do it yourself. After
all, you don’t know whether or not the teaser will actually help sales.
So, you bring up your favorite photo
editor, paste your excerpt, and switch it to a curly font for a little
personality. Then you shift the photo’s colors around to make it look artsy.
Awesome! You lean forward, anxious to click the button that will plaster your
masterpiece all over the—
Crash!
I burst through the window beside your
desk—you know, since you don’t have a skylight for me to live out my Batman
fantasies—and rush over to your computer monitor. Ignore the glass. Ignore the
bleeding. This is a scenario, and we have bigger fish to fry. Let’s take a look
at that teaser graphic...
5. Color
- Does the color scheme evoke the right emotions? Is it representative of your
genre? Take a step back. Do the colors “play nice” together? Should we bust out
the color wheel?
4. Space,
balance, etc. - It’s not a wall of text, is it? Oh God, it is. It’s a wall
of text over the models’ faces, and it’s bumping against the edges of the
image... *shudder*
Okay, what can we adjust? Where can we create white/negative space to make this more pleasing to the eye? Is the excerpt too long? Does the overall image look balanced?
Okay, what can we adjust? Where can we create white/negative space to make this more pleasing to the eye? Is the excerpt too long? Does the overall image look balanced?
3. Contrast
- Dear, sweet contrast...
This plays into the next point. Because this is a teaser, we need to actually be able to read the excerpt. Is it easily distinguishable from the background?
This plays into the next point. Because this is a teaser, we need to actually be able to read the excerpt. Is it easily distinguishable from the background?
2. Readability
- How easy is it to read that font from a distance? If you’re sharing the
teaser via social media, it’s probably not going to be huge. Try a few
different fonts/sizes (not on the same image), and then ask a friend for their
opinion.
1. Odds
and ends - Is it fuzzy? Did you buy a stock photo that was too small? Wait.
Did you buy a (licensed) stock photo, at all? What about a public domain image
or a royalty free texture? There are no hard and fast rules here. It’s okay to
play around with things until you have something you’re proud of.
A hiss snaps you back to reality. The room
is quickly filling with thick smoke, and I’m making a swift exit. Best of luck
with your teaser! :)
Title: Courage
Author: Carrie Butler
Series: Mark of Nexus #2
Expected publication: October 15th, 2013
Category: New Adult (NA)
Genre: Paranormal Romance (PNR)
Making a deal with the bad guys wasn’t the highlight of Rena Collins’ semester, but, hey, it saved her boyfriend. Now, in order to appease the human-altering organization known as ERA, she’ll crawl under their microscope while they study the Mark of Nexus and plot their eye-glazed version of the future—until she realizes that’s not all they’re plotting.
Wallace Blake has always known his girlfriend is unlike most girls. But now that information has surfaced regarding the two bloodlines that balance his supernatural race, he finally understands why. Rena belongs to one of them. She’s been augmenting his power, all along...
Enter: Corynn Catley. Brought into the country under the guise of an internship, she’s intended to become ERA’s secret weapon. Kind of. Her abilities cancel out Wallace’s, rendering him powerless, but that’s exactly what he’s always wanted. Too bad it only works when his girlfriend’s not around.
All the while, Rena fails to notice the crush her geeky best friend, Aiden Ross, is nursing. He’d give anything for her to see him in a new light—even reinvent himself through questionable means--but there’s a reason people are told to be careful what they wish for. Finding the courage to tell her could put everyone’s lives in danger. Amazon: Barnes & Noble: The Book Depository: Kobo: Smashwords: iTunes: Sony Reader Store:
Courage (Mark of Nexus #2) is a New Adult paranormal romance that features four unique points-of-view. While the novel stands alone, it is best enjoyed after Strength (Mark of Nexus #1).
Instead of panicking at the prospect of unemployment, she used her Midwestern logic to steer into the skid and point her life in the direction she really wanted to go: writing out those daydreams.
Her passion for New Adult fiction led her to co-found NA Alley—a widely recognized informational hub for the category.
She is the author of STRENGTH (Mark of Nexus #1) and COURAGE (Mark of Nexus #2).

Memorable Mondays: Free Books from both Kyra Lennon and Mary Pax!
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope your week gets off to a productive start!
We're experiencing a heat-wave in the UK, and the warm temperatures are killing my creativity; I'm such a winter baby! Hopefully I can make some progress on my WiPs though.
Yesterday saw a little later than usual Favourites Friday post on my personal blog. If you've got time, and want to see what I've been up to with the family, please drop by.
Continuing with the posting schedule this week, and back to Memorable Mondays: book releases, cover reveals, blog tours & blog hops etc. from around the Blogosphere.
Two of my favourite authors, and friends, are giving away books this month.
Having critiqued both books, I know how truly amazing they are. Kyra's stories are packed full of twists and turns; they're not your predictable love stories, but it's the super realistic, life-like characters that really make the stories shine.
So if you're looking to get into a fresh contemporary series, with wonderfully deep characters, why don't you pick up A Beginner's Introduction to the Game On Series, and get to know a little about Leah Walker, Radleigh McCoy and Jesse Shaw, as well as Game On secondary characters Bree Collinson, Fraya Phillips and Will Cater; who will all feature as main characters in future books.
The second author giving away free books this month is the wonderful Mary Pax, who's boundless imagination knows no ends.
That's not all Mary is giving away. Over on her blog is the free episodic novel Under the Moon, which is currently on part five.
Read the full chapter - and find previous instalments - here ...
Thanks for dropping in, I hope you find something you enjoy in the offerings from Kyra Lennon and Mary Pax.
Check back next Monday, where I'll be taking part in the cover reveal for the second book in Carrie Butler's amazing New Adult Paranormal Romance series The Mark of Nexus, entitled Courage which you can mark as 'to be read' on Goodreads now!
And if you're so inclined, please drop by again on Wednesday, where I may or may not be discussing a new project.

| A Beginner's Introduction to the Game On Series - available for free on Smashwords. |
First of all we have Kyra Lennon, who's just released "A Beginner's Introduction to the Game On Series."
If you were around for the 2012 A-Z Blogging Challenge, you'll remember Kyra's wonderful posts, written as diary entries by characters from her Game On series.
Since then, we've had two books from the series, as well as a special Christmas snippet, and I know Kyra has plans for a third Game On book later this year.
For those of you not familiar with the series, Game On and sequel/ spin-off Blindsided, are contemporary romances, centred around L.A's (fictional) soccer team the Westburg Warriors.
The first title in the series, Game On, sees British expat, Westburg's physiotherapist Leah Walker battle with her feelings for womanising soccer star Radleigh McCoy. The second book, Blindsided sees McCoy's younger team mate Jesse Shaw vacationing in England, where he meets shy British girl Isabelle Mills, and events while on vacation put Jesse's career on the line.
Having critiqued both books, I know how truly amazing they are. Kyra's stories are packed full of twists and turns; they're not your predictable love stories, but it's the super realistic, life-like characters that really make the stories shine.

| The Renaissance of Hetty Locklear now only 99 cents. |
Her brilliant New Adult Contemporary Fantasy with a Contemporary Sci-fi twist, The Renaissance of Hetty Locklear, is on sale this month for 99 cents. And beginning July 15th two signed paperbacks will be given away through Goodreads, and 10 ebooks will be given away through Rafflecopter.
"The journey into adulthood is stranger than she expects.
Graduation from community college isn’t the magic elixir Hetty Locklear counts on for becoming an adult. Her parents, who work the Renaissance fair circuit, insist she spend part of the summer with them. Hetty doubts pretending to live in the Middle Ages will help her find her way.
To make it worse, an entity haunts her at her dead-end job, warning her of a dangerous man she doesn’t know. The ghost leads her to a lover who has a lot of secrets. He pulls her farther into peril and into a strange, hidden world of genetic experimentation.
New Adult Contemporary Fantasy with a contemporary sci-fi twist."
That's not all Mary is giving away. Over on her blog is the free episodic novel Under the Moon, which is currently on part five. "Dennis Merrill shouted at the driver to stop then rushed out into the wild night clutching his pack. The land resembled nothing he had ever seen. All the brush grew low, the trees sparse. Palisades crooked through the landscape in an awing tumult. The rock faces sang, beckoning."

Happy Friday!

I hope you've all had a cracking week.
Things in my world have been good.
I reached the end of act one in my WiP new adult paranormal romance; just under 30k words. I'm at the point of the 'first disaster', where something unexpected happens to my main character, Roxie, and that propels her, the storyline, and her romantic relationship along a level.
Here's a small *unedited* excerpt of the action:
"Worst of all though was the look on Sol’s face. The news I'd received was bad enough but nothing nothing compared to this. He was staring blankly ahead, his eyes that were usually so intense and expressive, empty and lifeless. His tanned skin had drained of all colour, and his lips had formed a tight, thin line. It broke my heart to see him like this."
Since getting to 30k, I've switched to editing act one, as I don't want to begin act two until I know the first 30k are as good as they can be. I've already given it one read through, simply checking for spellings and grammar. Now I'm going over in more detail, checking for other things like plot and character development. I've cut some chunks from the beginning of chapter one, and refined Roxie's voice a little too. I'm pleased with how things are turning out so far.
Away from writing, I've also been working towards my goal of finding some industry work experience, culminating in interviewing with and then been offered a position with Curiosity Quills as a Social Media Marketing Intern. I've also been invited to test for an editing and proofreading internship with them. I've been watching CQs for a while now, and know a few of their writers. It seems like a really friendly place to work, and I cannot wait to get started on Monday. Just no whipping the newbie, okay? :P
I also contacted The Writers Bureau, who I started a correspondence writing course with in 2007 but had to stop due to personal circumstances, and was told as I paid for the course before 2009 I can resume my studies whenever I wish. I'm considering doing so, depending on how I can fit it around my schedule with everything else.
Next week should be interesting, as I try to juggle my new position, continue editing/ revising my WiP, and entertain my boys as they're on half-term holidays!
What has everyone been up to this week? Fill me in on your news.
What are your plans for next week? Doing anything exciting for the Bank Holiday/ Memorial day? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear all about it!
Whatever you're up to have fun, stay safe and I'll catch you all next week!
Blog Tour Post: Strength - Carrie Butler
Good day everyone!
I'm here today as part of Carrie Butler's blog tour for her début novel, STRENGTH, a new adult paranormal romance published by Sapphire Star Publishing.
I've been intrigued by Carrie's book ever since I heard about it last year, and when the cover was revealed I was doubly sold. Not least of all because Carrie designed it herself. As a bit of a Photoshop novice, I'm obsessed with cover design and what elements go into a great cover. Carrie's cover for STRENGTH is excellent - and not just because of the hot shirtless guy on the front (although it helps)!
I've invited Carrie here today to discuss five elements that make a great cover.
5 Elements of a Great Cover
Thank you for having me over, Clare! As you
know, I design (and am obsessed with)
book covers. So, today, I thought it would be fun to discuss the elements of a
great one. :)
5. Great
covers use distinctive, legible fonts. This is part of your book branding,
so choose a font that complements your genre and is easy to read. Remember, your
book cover is going to be tiny on
most retailers' websites.
4. Great
covers don't look like they were 'Shopped in MS Paint. You've seen a bad cover. I
know you have. So, why would you do that to your own book? You've worked hard to
make this happen. Don't cut corners now.
3. Great
covers use quality stock photos or professional artwork. Please, please
work with images that have a decent resolution. Otherwise, it's going to fuzz/pixelate,
and I shudder just thinking about that...
2. Great
covers have easily identifiable genres. Take Alex J Cavanaugh's Cassastar, for example. Is there any question that it's a
science fiction novel? Of course not. The imagery, the fonts, the affects, the
color scheme—they're all consistent with the genre and give the reader an
instant feel for the story. Which brings me to my next point.
1. Great
covers are true to the story within. Think of it this way: If you bought a
box of Girl Scout cookies and found crackers inside, wouldn't you be angry? You
might like crackers, but the packaging set you up for something else—something
you did not receive.
Similarly, you wouldn't want to take your
adult suspense and dress it up like a YA contemporary. You'll give your readers
the wrong expectations, and they will be very
vocal about their disappointment.
Excellent tips, Carrie. Thanks for including me in your tour, and sharing your cover designing tips with us today! I can certainly see how these five combined would give a great jumping off point for any cover, and you've worked them together seamlessly for STRENGTH.

Long Synopsis:
When
college student Rena Collins finds herself nose-to-chest with the campus
outcast, her rumor-laced notions are shattered. Handsome, considerate, and
seemingly sane, Wallace Blake doesn’t look like he spends his nights alone,
screaming and banging on the walls of his dorm room. Hell, he doesn’t look like
he spends his nights alone, period.
Too curious for her own good, Rena vows to uncover the truth behind Wallace’s madman reputation—and how two seconds of contact had left her with bruises. Of course, there are a few setbacks along the way: guilt, admiration, feelings of the warm and fuzzy variety…
Not to mention the unwanted attention of Wallace's powerful, supernaturally-gifted family.
They’re a bloodline divided by opposing ideals, two soon-to-be warring factions that live in secret among us. When Rena ends up caught in their crossfire, Wallace has no choice but to save her by using his powers. Now they’re really in trouble. With war on the horizon and Rena’s life in the balance, he needs to put some distance between them. But Rena won’t let go. If fighting is what it takes to prove her own strength and keep Wallace in her life, then that’s what she’ll do—even if it means risking a whole lot more than her heart.
