Still Alive ...

I know I said I was returning to full-time, scheduled blogging in September after the summer break, but well ... that didn't happen.

The truth is, work has been so busy that I've not had time for very much else.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm still loving every second of my marketing role at Curiosity Quills, especially when it involves commissioning an illustrator to design a cat in a top hat with a monocle that later ends up on a tote bag!

I'm intending to get back to work on my WiP paranormal-romance next week (the kids are on school holidays this week, so I don't hold out hope of getting much writing done!), as I've only got a little bit more revising to do before act one (around 35k) is complete, and then I'm hoping to send it to some beta readers while I work on act two.

I know it's a while off to be thinking about publication, but I have been, it's hard not to. One idea that's sticking out in my mind is serializing my novel.

I mentioned the idea of serialization before, when I was contemplating doing just that with an unpublished contemporary romance. I've since come to realise I've only got time/ focus to work on one project, and well for me it's my PNR. Whenever I get tempted to do something else, this story keeps pulling me back.:)

So now I'm wondering about serializing my PNR Working for CQ I've seen novels that have been serialized, and then later released as complete editions, and spoken to authors about how the experience works. I've learned serialization is a great way to build a reader base, as your're putting out new content on a weekly basis. I really like that idea, and it's something I'm familiar with from when I wrote fanfiction.

I still want to make some more headway with the story, but think serializing is probably what I'll end up doing. I'll keep you updated.

NaNoWriMo is approaching, and I was very tempted by it. So much so, I started planning an erotic paranormal-romance I was going to write. But then, my current WiP called to me, and demanded I work on it. (Man, I love this story! ^_^) So, while I'm not doing NaNo this year, I will be cheering on everyone who is from the sidelines.

So, what have you all been up to while I've been busy with work? What projects are you working on? Anyone doing NaNo and need a cheerleader? Let me know, I'd love to hear all about what you've got going on.

I will try to update more regularly now work is calming down, however, I am ditching the schedule. I found it was restricting me too much. But hopefully I can drop in on regular basis to keep you all updated on what I'm going, and check in on how your guys are!

Have a great week!

  1. Hi Clare! Good bye :) I'm off blogger for Nov and Dec so I can remember what if feels like to write something other than a blogfest post or book review. And to read something other than from my blog friends.

    Selfish? Oh well.

Nice to say hello to you again. Have a good holiday season.

  2. NaNo is calling to me, dammit! So, I doubt I'll be blogging much through November, other than the occasional progress report, but this book needs to be written!

  3. No NaNo this year. I'd need a solid idea first.
I know two authors who have been successful with serials if you need any help in that area.

    1. Are you working on anything else, Alex? Or taking some time off after your Cassa release?

Thanks, that's good to know! :D

  4. I couldn't resist the call of NaNo. Plus, since it's my 10th year, I couldn't miss it! Serials are becoming more and more popular. I've been reading articles that say novellas are the wave of the future. That there will be less big novels and more serialized novellas.

That's interesting to know ... I might do a little more research and see what I can dig up. :)

    1. Good luck with NaNo Emma! What do you have planned!

The CQ serials are awesome. It's their success that has me wondering about the serialization option.

  6. Definitely chase the story that keeps calling to you, Claire! I write serialized novellas (just released the 4th one in the series woot! :D), and it's certainly a time commitment--short stories that work are still stories, after all. But they're rewarding and just a ton of fun to write. :)

  8. You are one busy lady, and I for one,do appreciate all you do for CQ authors! I'm not doing Nano either, I say that and then tomorrow I'll change my mind. LOL I need to get a lot of work done and I'm looking forward to a break from blog tours to get to it. But now the book tour starts. We'll see! :)
    Keep writing!

  9. Glad to hear you're getting back into the swing of things. And I do love those stories that won't let you go! :) I won't be doing NaNo this year as I lose two weeks next month due to family stuff. I might do my own NaNo in January! Serialization is getting more and more popular. It's definitely a smart way to go. Happy Halloween!
