First Fight/First Kiss Blogfest - Part Two

I'm finally catching up on everything – after some hectic personal life business – and am back with part two of Danielle B and Jackie's First Fight/First Kiss Blogfest.

First of all, I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who commented on part one. The feedback was really encouraging, and I'm thrilled to hear so many of you enjoyed the fight scene between Nick and Rainie.

Secondly, I wanted everyone to know, I will try to get around to as many blogs as possible, and catch up on all the posts - including today's kiss scenes - as soon as possible.

A lot of people mentioned how delicious Rainie's cupcakes sounded. Sadly I can't had real cupcakes out to you all – I would if I could – but I hope some virtual ones will be an acceptable substitute.

For my first kiss scene, I am again focusing on Nick and Rainie from my WiP, Perfect Ten, and some of you may remember an almost kiss I posted between the two a few months ago.

I'm sure you're all eager to get onto the real thing though, so here it is …

It had been three dates and Nick still hadn't made a move on her. There had been handholding, touching, several moments, but no actual kissing.

Kiara's words rang in Rainie's head, If you want to kiss him, make it happen. Rainie planned to change that tonight. After Nick had finished filming they plans to go to the movies. Rainie thought that this was the perfect opportunity to finally get the kiss she'd been longing for.

A chill of anticipation ran down Rainie's spine as she thought about the almost kiss.

"You're the one claiming there's a red squirrel in the trees."

"There really was." Nick tilted Rainie's head up so that she was looking into his eyes. His lips hovered above hers, and his breath was hot on her face. "Look, there it is."

"What? Where?" Rainie let out the breath she'd been holding in anticipation and span around on the spot. There was no squirrel in sight.

Rainie sighed, her heart racing, and pulled her new lip gloss from her handbag. This too had been Kiara's idea.

"When you make a dish you season it, right? Well think of this as seasoning your lips, to make them more appealing, innit?"

Rainie had given her friend a sidewards glance, but had bought the lip gloss anyway. She pulled it, along with a compact mirror, from her handbag and started applying a generous coating.

"Ready to go?" Nick had finished work for the day, and was striding towards her.

Rainie jumped, causing her to spear her lip gloss. "Just a second." She took a paper towel and hastily cleaned where she'd smudged. "What do you think of my new lip gloss?" She turned to Nick and puckered.

"Yeah it's alright," he replied with a nonchalant shrug. "Come on, I wanna get going so we don't miss the start of the movie."

"Okay, all set." Rainie threw on her jacket, grabbed her handbag and then took hold of the hand Nick offered.

**

Rainie was utterly bored. The film was duller than watching paint dry. Although the thought of watching paint dry seemed utterly riveting compared to this. Nick had insisted that going to see the foreign language special on World War II would broaden their cultural horizons. Honestly, she wished they'd gone to see this summer's blockbuster staring the hot guy who used to be in a daytime soap, not dissimilar from the one she now catered for.

Nick didn't look all that interested in the movie either. His legs were propped up on the back of the empty chair in front of him, crossed at the ankles, and he was staring at her, grinning inanely. She thought this was the perfect opportunity she'd envisioned earlier.

Feeling like a silly teenager, Rainie stretched out her arms as though she was yawning and snaked one around the back of Nick. Only he moved just as she was, and she missed. Instead of slipping her arm around his back, Rainie pitched forwards and knocked the bucket over, spilling the popcorn all over the floor.

"Are you okay?" Nick asked with a barely disguised laugh.

"Erm … yeah … fine," she grunted, scrambling around on the floor to scoop up the fallen popcorn.

**

Rainie was glad when the stupid movie was over. She had finally recovered from the embarrassment of knocking the popcorn over, but still found the film utterly boring.

She and Nick had left the cinema, and walked through the nighttime town centre on their way to a restaurant. As they came to a set of marble steps, they climbed and planned to cross through the arcade and take advantage of the short cut through the mall.

They reached the top when a gust of wind blew into their faces. Autumn leaves whirled around them and Rainie drew to a halt.

"Ouch. I think I've got something in my eye."

"Here let me take a look." Nick hooked his thumb under her chin, and tilted her head up to face him. Blue met blue as their eyes locked. "Nope, all clear. Must have just been a bit of dust or something," he assured, placing a light kiss on her forehead.

Rainie saw this as her new perfect opportunity, and snaking her arms around Nick's waist, she stood up on tiptoes, puckered her lips and inched her head towards his.

"Would you look at that," Nick exclaimed, turning so that Rainie's kiss missed his mouth and hit his stubble covered cheek instead. "A guy just jumped into the fountain down there. God, he must be freezing his nuts off."

Rainie looked down the steps to the town's central landmark. True enough a fully clothed man had just jumped into the water feature, and was now wading knee deep in the fountain.

As amusing and perplexing as the man's nighttime swim was, Rainie let out a frustrated breath.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Rainie lied, not wanting to make an issue out of it.

"Come on, Rainie. I know something's up, you've been acting oddly all night. I know what happened in the cinema wasn't an accident, and I also know you never wear lip gloss in that colour."

"Are you ever going to kiss me?" she blurted, her cheeks flushing as the heat in her body rose. She felt stupid as soon as the worlds left her mouth.

Nick chuckled. "Is that what all this is about?"

Rainie bowed her head and nodded. "It's been three dates. Most guys would have tried for a lot more by now," she mumbled into his chest.

"I'm not most guys." Nick gripped Rainie around the waist and pulled her tight against him.

Rainie looked up, gazing at him through heavily lidded eyes. "You're not?"

"I'm not. This isn't some quick fling and a grope on the back seat of the cinema for me. When I kiss you it's going to be perfect."

"It is?" Rainie felt her pulse quicken.

"Yeah, it will be. It'll be at the end of a romantic date, and I'll sweep you off your feet," he said slowly, seductively. Rainie felt her knees quiver. "It will be everything in a romance novel, and more. It will leave your body weak and longing for more," he told her in a whisper, his mouth hovering just above her ear.

"Uh-huh," she murmured in reply.

"And when I'm finished with you, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it." Without giving her opportunity to ask any more questions, Nick crushed his lips against Rainie's. Her heart somersaulted in her chest.

With one arm around her waist, and the other hand planted firmly on her lower back, Nick tilted Rainie backwards so that her hair cascaded down behind her; reaching to her arse.

The spotlights around at the top of the stairs illuminated them both, and with the rustle of leaves around them and a soft autumn breeze ruffling their clothes, Nick kissed her fully. Not a light, gentle kiss. A deep, consuming kiss. His tongue delved into her mouth, probing, and meeting hers, where the two danced together; battling for dominance. Rainie swooned in his arms. Everything else melted away, and all that mattered was them and the feelings of his hot breath tickling her face, his course stubble brushing against her cheek, and of his hard body pressed against hers.

Nick held on, spinning Rainie around on the spot, as their lips remained locked. His hand left her back and made its way into her hair, his fingers winding through the locks and entwining with them.

Rainie's heart raced, the sound pounding in her ears, like waves crashing in the ocean. Her heart skipped a beat, and her knees felt weak.

"Like that," he told her, ending the kiss and leaving her breathless.

All Rainie could do in response was lick her lips, regard him steadily and wonder when the next kiss would come, because right now wasn't soon enough.

And about that kiss, oi! I was getting just as impatient as Rainie was with him. I didn't think Nick would ever kiss her, but dang, it really was worth the wait. Great first kiss scene.

  5. I like how she kept giving him opportunities, but it didn't happen the way she wanted. Then, when it finally did happen, it was all that more special!

  8. Well, I for one, found the plotting and planning of the first kiss very relatable. ;-) Such great imagery in that sweeping, romantic moment. I think you just made every guy on the planet look bad and every woman jealous of Rainie! I thought the man in the fountain was a brilliant distraction and well placed, too. Thank you for sharing and giving us all a little romantic escape from reality... though your first fight snippet was very realistic... which leads me to believe that the entire story has the perfect balance of the two. I look forward to reading how the story ends!
