I'm
back again with day six of the month long Buccaneer
Blogfest hosted by Sharon
Bayliss and Courtney
Young.
Before I get started, first I'd like to thank everyone who commented
on Wednesday's post. The continued support of Sibylline Nights is both greatly appreciated and very flattering. I'm pleased to hear everyone enjoyed my "hangers" and character interview.
Work in Progress - July 20: Share your light bulb moment with us. How did you come up with the
idea for your WIP?
I didn't really have one "Eureka!" moment when the idea flooded my mind. I've always been interested in magic, fantasy and witches. My early childhood stories all involved girls with magical powers.
I've also been heavily by things like Xmen, the Craft, Charmed, video games and the many wonderful fantasy books I read.
When I (again) started thinking about writing original fiction in 2009, the idea of three sisters with magical abilities came to mind. Back then it didn't have much of a plot, just that triplets had been separated at birth, and at eighteen - along with meeting their grandmother - were reunited.
It was in 2011, when I started work on the story for NaNoWriMo, that proper ideas came, and the worldbuilding - including the PID, the Orphic Plane and backstory - began to develop.
Since then it's been a roller-coaster, and I feel like every time I edit and work on a scene/ chapter, I'm adding more details, and discovering new things.
I have really enjoyed seeing SN take shape, and seeing the first draft getting tighter with every edit. I can't wait to read the newest changes you've made!
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed sharing it with; you're an excellent CP, and I wouldn't have gotten this far without you. Hopefully I'll have something to share with you soon.
DeleteI must admit I never liked editing, but now I really enjoy it. I figure it's like renovating a house... first the foundation, then the plaster, then the paint and finally the furniture :) Your MS sounds really interesting :)
ReplyDeleteBefore I started Sibylline nights I HATED editing, but I've really enjoyed it this time around, it's been such a great journey of discovery. Your renovating a house analogy is perfect.
DeleteAnd thanks, glad you like the sound of it. :D
You know I've been influenced by X-men too, one in particular of course...he he he.
ReplyDeleteI love all the excerpts/characters you have shared with us regarding Syb Nights. The whole triplets concept is amazing (and quite enterprising) My NA paranormal romance was influenced by certain awful events that happened in my own life, that I decided to recreate adding my own spin and taking a HUGE leap of imagination and adding a paranormal twist.
*hehe* Well, he is very inspirational ...
DeleteThank you Jay, that really means a lot to me. It's support and encouragement like you give me why I haven't given up.
Oh, I didn't know that about your story. It's really good that you can use a awful experience and turn it into something positive. Everything I read about your story sounds fantastic, I can't wait to know more about it.
Interesting inspirations! I love worldbuilding. It's one of my favorite things about writing a new story: creating the world my characters live in and die for...!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, I love world building too, and seeing a place entirely of my creation coming to life.
DeleteI loved witch books when I was younger, and would probably love to find a witch book written for adults. Triplets are right up my alley too, since I have a lot of multiple births in my own writing. Witches seem like one paranormal creature that hasn't been done to death in recent years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments. I love witches too, and agree, they haven't been done to death - unless you count Harry Potter, but that's different!
DeleteI've always wondered about the special connection between twins, but the bond between triplets... now there's a recipe for magic! I think it's a very appealing idea that should draw a lot of readers. I'm a little late to witnessing the development of your story, having only followed your work for a month or so, but I do think you're onto something special. I, too, always loved the X-men, The Craft and Charmed... we grown ups could use a little more witchcraft in our lives. The only thing I've seen available lately is (what I assume to be from the commercials) a teeny-bopper high school show called Secret Circle. I look forward to being able to read your entire story one day soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliments and encouragement. I'm very close to my sister, and we're not even twins, so I'd imagine the bond between triplets would be very strong. Yeah, it does seem like there's a place for stories about witches, especially adult stories. I watched the first episode of the Secret Circle, I was very excited for the series, sadly it didn't live up to expectations. :(
