Welcome
to the second day of the I'm
Hearing Voices! Character Blogfest.
Once
again, thank you to everyone who read Monday's
entry, and left a comment. And welcome to my new followers. Great
to have you here.
Additional
thanks, once more, to Cassie
Mae and Angie for
hosting the blog fest.
Okay,
now on with business …
As
I did on Monday I'm 'cheating' a little and doing the challenge for
all three of my main protagonists as it seems really unfair to leave
out any of my girls. ;)
"Hello
everyone."
"Quinn
is a member of my grandmother's coven, and he can summon any animal
he's studied the biology of. Personally, I find that fascinating. His
most frequent summon is a cat named Boots, that's taken up residence
on my bed."
"Not
that I can really blame Boots. Maggie is fantastic. She's the first
telepathic witch I've met, and some of the things she can do with her
mind astounds me."
"Oh,
you're just saying that to be nice in front of all these people. I'm
nothing special really. At least not compared to the other members of
the coven."
"No
one has helped me study the anatomy of wolves like you have, Maggie."
"That's
what we've been doing recently. Quinn wants to learn how to summon a
wolf in case we ever get into a fight."
"Plus
they're amazingly loyal animals."
"Quinn
and I have a lot in common. For starters we both wear glasses, and we both enjoy
reading factual books. Having him around to distract me has taken my
mind off losing my parents."
"I'm
glad I've been able to support you. And having Maggie here had made
me strive to be better. I want my own powers to match hers. Then we
can fight the Champions together, and gain freedom for all witches."
"That
would be ideal. We're running out of time now, and Grams is calling
us for dinner. Thanks for listening and please stick around to hear
what my sisters have to say."
**
"Hey.
I'm Sebastian, and I'm here to introduce Esmee today. The first thing
I noticed about Esmee – aside from the fact she was saving my life
at the time – was her kind face. I'll never forget the sight of it,
brows furrowed in concentration, as she healed me."
"It
was the least I could do, really. You had just saved us from your
crazed work college. Not what I would have expected a Champion to do,
however."
"Former
Champion, actually."
"Oh
yes. Sebastian has turned his back on the Champions and joined my
grandmother's coven."
"Well,
I did sort of feel I owed you."
"It
was strange at first, accepting someone who is meant to fight against
witches. But Sebastian has shown
his true loyalty since then."
"Meeting
Esmee, her grandmother and sisters just proved to me that the
Champions' view of witches is wrong. Esmee isn't a power mad monster,
she's just a regular girl. Only she can heal people, and sense their
emotions."
"Yeah.
Completely regular. About as normal as wielding a whip that nullifies
witches powers'."
"It
has it's uses, you'll see."
"I'm
sure it will have, just as long as you never have to use that thing
on me."
"Only
if you ask me nicely!"
"Seb!
That's not what I meant and you know it!"
"Sorry.
I'd never dream of it, really."
"Good
to hear. Okay, we should go now, and see what Grams as cooked us for
dinner. I'll leave you with Nola and her girlfriend."
**
"I
can't believe I've been roped into doing another of
these things. Weren't those stupid questions on Monday enough? Well,
at least I have Naima with me today.
And let me tell you, Naima is gorgeous. I'm talking hot! Long black
hair, dark eyes and bronzed skin. A real Arabian beauty."
"Oh,
Nola. You flatterer. Nola and I have known each other for
years, but we've only recently discovered we're both witches. It's
been good to reconnect with Nola again, and now that she's no longer
with that controlling bitch Geri, I've finally been able to reveal my
true feelings."
"I
can still hardly believe someone like Naima would be interested in
someone like me. For
as long as I've known Naima, I've admired her from afar. She's
perfect. Powerful, too. She can generate tiny balls of energy, almost
like miniature
fireworks."
"That's
nothing compared to what Nola does. Moving things with your mind is
way cooler than
generating fireworks."
"Whatever!
You're way more
experienced at this magic stuff than I am. You've known you're a
witch since you were ten."
"Nola
only found out about her powers recently, when they manifested in an
alarming way. It all worked out in the end though, and it
helped her to find her long lost sisters."
"Yeah,
the very same sisters that didn't even bother looking for me for
eighteen years. But I have you in my life again now, and that's all
that matters."
Your characters are so distinct. Very good exercise on getting to know them. Good job.
ReplyDeleteWow, 3 separate convos! Nice. I have a soft spot for witches.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff! I am a big Maggie/Quinn fan already!
ReplyDeleteClare--I love the distinct voices you have going on here. Well done :) Love the guys!
ReplyDeleteThanks for everyone for stopping by and leaving a comment. I really appreciate the support. And I'm glad to hear you're still liking my girls, and finding their voices distinct.
ReplyDeleteGood job establishing distinct voices. I feel like I got to know each one individually. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and commenting, Emily. Glad to hear you felt like you got to know each one individually. :D
ReplyDeleteYou're so great with all three (now six) of them again. I can tell you've got a strong cast of characters and really know how to write for each of them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and commenting, Cassie. I appreciate the compliment that it seems like I've got a strong cast of characters. I must be doing something right. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou seem to know your characters really well. And you did three!
ReplyDeleteI like that you have a very different voice for each character. Well done - new follower :)
ReplyDeleteWow! You sure can balance a lot of characters! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis exercise is so useful in getting to know one's characters...great job on the dialog!
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on making the most perceptive comment on my post--you were absolutely right :)

In such a short time, I feel like I know these guys. Great job!
ReplyDelete*New Follower!* So nice to *meet* you!
You're voice is really your strongest part I've seen here so far, but most of the other commenters have probably said as much. If you have as much going for your plot, pacing, etc. as you do your voice, you're sitting on something good. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteClarissa, Tasha, Ashley, Damyanti, Kelley and Justin thank you all for dropping by and leaving comments. Your words of encouragement are really appreciated, and I'm glad you liked my characters and their voices so much.
ReplyDeleteDamyanti, you did wonderfully on your dialogue exchange and create such and uneasy and tension filled feeling, akin to what you see in horror movies.
Tasha and Kelley, thanks for the follows, also. :)
Justin, I'm very flattered that is a massive compliment, and I hope the other aspects of my novel live up to the high praise you gave my voice. :)
Hey Clare!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the A to Z Challenge. I'm one of the co-hosts, so if you have any questions, just ask.
Hey Alex! Thanks for having me! And no questions thus far, but I'll keep you in mind if I do have any. :D
