Let It Go!

Is this post just an excuse to make Frozen references and Photoshop a cartoon version of my head onto Elsa's body?

Maybe!

Do I actually have a point to make underneath all this insanity?

YES!

Let It Go isn't just a catchy tune, but advice every writer should follow at some point in their writing careers.

And this week, I find myself advising me to let it go.

You see, I've finally finished revisions/ edits on my new-adult urban-fantasy, paranormal-romance - which now had a name. YAY! But I'll reveal that another time. ;)

I've done as much as I can on my own, so it's time to hand my baby, which has been 18 months' worth of work, over to CPs and betas.

This is sort of huge for me. I've never gotten this far before. This is the first complete project I've ever sent to more than one or two people in it's entirety

Instead of worrying about what they'll think, or if it's good enough, I'm letting go. I'm trusting my critters, and am going to enjoy the time away from my project. I've already started making notes for the next books in the series, plus I want to look at the novel Kyra Lennon and I are co-writing.

The criticism never bothered me anyway ...

  1. As an artist, I can completely relate to the need to just "let it go." It's far too easy to tweak forever otherwise! Anyway, good luck not worrying, and have fun with everything you hope to focus on instead! :)

  2. It's always hard to send a finished book to readers for the first time! (And now that song's stuck in my head. :P) But you can do it! Enjoy working on your other projects. :)

  3. That's awesome, Clare! Even if it comes back with a lot of suggestions, those are all to make it even better.

  4. Sending it off is hard - I hate knowing when people are reading my work. But moving on to something else will help you break away from it, so you can take their comments more objectively.

  5. Congrats Clare! That's a huge step. Good for you, and I bet you'll get insightful feedback. Betas are amazing! Almost as amazing as posts that make Frozen references. ;)

  6. I love this post! Every writer definitely has to learn to let it go. I wish this song and advice had been around when I was ruthlessly revising one of my books over and over again a couple of years ago. I would've loved to tell myself to, "Let it go!" This saying will also come in handy for whenever authors get less than happy reviews/ratings.

    Congratulations on finishing your book!

  7. It's a huge step, and I'm having such fun with it. I also adore the term "critters." Well, as long as I don't think about that bad 80's horror flick! *LOL*
