Game On Blog Tour: Fashion and Paperback Giveaway

After swapping her small town life to work for one of the top soccer teams in the U.S, Leah Walker thought she could finally leave the ghosts of her past behind. However, when she meets serial womanizer, Radleigh McCoy, the memories of her old life come swarming back, and she is forced to ask herself whether she has really changed at all.
Today I have the honour of kicking off the Game On book release tour. Kyra Lennon is a very dear friend of mine, and I'm so unbelievably proud and excited for her to be releasing her début novel.

Game On is one of the best contemporary romance novels I've read in recent years. It's funny, romantic, thought provoking, sexy, moving and genuine. Full of friendship, laughs, drama, plot twists, and a look at human characteristics, and why people act a certain way. Both the characters and emotions embedded in the story are very real, and true to life. And I'm not saying any of that because I'm bias, I'm say that because it's true! Plus it has hot footballers in!!

I was fortunate enough to read a very early draft of Game On back in 2006, and have read it countless times since then, as Kyra re-wrote, revised and improved the story. Watching it grow into the spectacular novel it is today has been an amazing privilege, and one I'm very grateful Kyra shared with me.

One of the things that always stood out in Game On – along with the amazing characters, dialogue and depth of emotion – was the fashion of the female characters. In particular classically stylish, modelesque football coach Freya Phillips, and bubbly, bouncy firecracker, footballer's wife, Bree Collinson.

Here are some excellent examples of their style, and how wonderfully Kyra conveys the ladies' love of shopping from the novel itself:

Rodeo Drive excited me more than any place I’d ever been. It was a work of art for people who love to shop, with its pristine stores, and palm tree lined pavements. It would be a while before I could afford to shop there, but just walking along the immaculately clean paths, and breathing in the air of wealth was a dream.
I was woken by a text message from Bree, begging me to go to her room right away to see the new clothes she’d bought.

For an hour and a half, we rummaged through her insane amount of purchases. She insisted on modelling almost every item – including the newest additions to her sexy lingerie collection. Good thing I was confident about my body, or I’d have felt extremely depressed standing so close to a girl whose figure would have made Barbie weep.

“Hey,” Freya said, “We thought you’d got lost!”
“I almost did,” I answered, taking the seat opposite her and perusing the menu, “Bree wanted me to check out the clothes she bought today. I didn’t think I was going to get out of there alive.”
“Death by designer labels. Not a bad way to go.”

His eyes lingered on Freya’s simple black dress, then down her long legs, as if she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Actually, there was a strong possibility that Freya really was the most beautiful woman in the world. Her high cheek bones were striking, and her smile could power the bright lights of Vegas for a week.
If she wasn’t my best friend, I’d have hated her.
And if that wasn't enough to whet your appitites, in honour of Game On's release, Kyra and I have come up with some fun Polyvore collections showcasing the fabulous styles of Bree and Freya.
