The A to Z Blogging Challenge: F is for Found Family

Thank you for visiting my blog for the
A-Z Blogging Challenge. This month, I will be posting the A-Z of The Starlight Prince, my spicy, fantasy-romance novel, which was released on 25 March. Posts will include excerpts, story inspirations, lore and other ‘behind-the-scenes’ tidbits.

You can see a complete schedule of my planned posts here for easy access.

Every day, I will pick a commenter at random to receive a FREE ebook copy of The Starlight Prince, and its prequel novella, The Adventures of Josain Jovenne.

Additionally, throughout the entire month, I’m running a Rafflecopter giveaway, which you can enter by commenting on my blog any day in the challenge. The prize is a signed paperback copy of The Starlight Prince, plus related ‘swag’ such as postcards, etc.

And now, onto today’s post…F is for Found Family, which is something a little different for the beginning of week two of the challenge. My previous posts have been excerpts from the story, but there isn't one specific excerpt that really exemplifies 'Found Family' as it's a theme throughout the whole story.

The story begins with Maddie casting a spell to not only find her true love, but where she belongs. She feels like an outsider on Earth, as she is a witch and witches are hunted because of their magic.

Maddie's acceptence to go to Kralis with Kalas isn't just because there's an attraction between the two and she wants to get to know him better, but also because she wants to see if other planets are more accepting of witches.

While on Kralis, she learns about the neighbouring planet, Valeth, where much of the population are witches. She meets two witches named Luna and Phoebe, who quickly become her friends and allies, and then later she meets the royal family of Valeth, who she discovers she shares an ancestor with.

In addition to the witches of Valeth, there is also Maddie's handmaiden Josain, who isn't a native Kralian, but recently came to the planet. Because of their status as outsiders, Maddie and Josain form a bond that eventually grows into a deeper friendship.

I felt these aspects of the story were important, as it's not just a love story, but a story about Maddie learning to love herself, and find her place in the universe.

Sometimes, your biological family is great and you get all the support you need, but othertimes, you have to make family for yourself through the people you meet and the friends you make.

What's important is finding YOUR people -- people who accept you for exactly who you are, and don't try to change you. Instead, the inspire you to become the best version of yourself

Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you again for tomorrow’s post.

Until then,

Take Care & Stay Creative!

  2. 100% important to find your people. Hopefully, they are your family, but not everyone is that lucky. As one of 8 kids, there was always at least one person to connect with, and even so, I probably had the most friends out of all of my siblings. :D Love the concept behind the story!

  5. As someone who has an interesting origin story, found family has become and remained an integral part of my being and existence. I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by both genetic and chosen family members who love me for me :-) Thank you for writing about this topic!
