Interview with the Witches

I'm back with day five of the month long Buccaneer Blogfest hosted by Sharon Bayliss and Courtney Young.

But before I get to that, first I'd like to thank everyone who commented on Monday's post, the response to my "hookers" for the first three chapters of Sibylline Nights was fantastic. I'm glad you all enjoyed the 'juicy" arse Maggie was hearing about, and I hope you enjoy the hangers from each chapter too.

Speaking of hangers, before I get onto today's Buccaneer Blogfest post, I'm here to finish off the Hookers and Hangers! Bloghop!, hosted by the wonderful ladies over at Falling For Fiction.

Last sentence from Maggie's opening chapter: She didn't have chance to dwell on it, as she slipped out of consciousness once more. (for a longer look at Maggie's opening chapter see here.)

Last sentence from Nola's opening chapter: They'd lock her up and throw away the key. (for a longer look at Nola's opening chapter see here.)

Last sentence from Esmee's opening chapter: That's when Esmee knew she was making the right choice, especially if it meant Jamie was no longer at risk. (for a longer look at Esmee's opening chapter see here.)

Work in Progress - July 18: Character interview.

Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing my Sibylline Nights protagonists Esmee, Maggie and Nola.

Maggie enters the room first, and looks around curiously, then approaches. Her glasses are perched on her freckled nose, and her long coppery hair is tied in a plait down her back. The green jumper she's wearing compliments her eyes.

"Nice to meet you," she says, extending her hand. "Thanks for having me."

Nola enters next, not even bothering to look at her sister or greet the interviewer, and instead plonking herself down in the centre of the sofa. Her hair is a stark contrast to her sister's, dyed black and streaked through with purple. Her grey-green eyes can just be made out behind layers of eyeliner and 'Goth' make up.

"Okay, make this quick. I've got a million more interesting things I could be doing … like sticking pins in my eyes," she says, propping her biker boots up on the coffee table.

Finally Esmee enters the room, and it's lit up by her warmth. She greets both her sisters and the interviewer with a cheery smile, the sun catching the blonde highlights that run through her red hair.

"Thanks for having me," she says. "I made you some cupcakes."

She places a tray of pink cupcakes down on the coffee table, then sits down next to Nola.

"Show off," Nola mutters.

"Thanks for agreeing to this guys," the interviewer says. "I know you're busy keeping a low profile right now."

"Yeah, because of the bloody PID," Nola scowls.

"They're only trying to protect us," Maggie insists.

"Was it protecting me when one of those bastards looped his whip around my neck? They're psychos."

"For once I agree with Nola, Maggie," Esmee interjects, leaning around Nola to look at her other sister. "The PID are crazy."

"They're not you're only problem, are they?" the interviewer asks.

"No, we're currently trying to track down magical terrorists," Maggie says, removing her glasses to polish them on the hem of her jumper.

"Magical terrorists?" the interviewer questions.

"People with above human capabilities that use their abilities to get what they want, including the release of William Gallagher." Once again it's Maggie who offers the explanation, speaking with authority.

The interviewer’s eyes widen in surprise. "William Gallagher, I've heard of him. Wasn't he arrested by the PID almost twenty years ago?"

"Yes, for killing PID agents and people that don't have abilities. He wanted to eradicate all those without above human capabilities," Maggie informs.

"Doesn't sound like a bad plan," Nola mutters. Her sisters shoot her a stern look and she corrects herself. "I'm not saying I agree with all the killing, but the PID oppress people with abilities, it's time we took back some of the power."

"Do you think that's what the terrorists are trying to do now?"

"I think their plans are more in-line with Gallagher's. Their leader, Irie, has been defying the PID for years."

"So you're going to stop them?"

"If we can. There's still a way those with abilities and those without can live together happily," Esmee insists.

"Is that what you're trying to do?"

"Yeah, sort of. We've got a coven. All we want to do is learn about our gifts. Though it would help if they PID weren't so hard on us. We're not all insane like William Gallagher. We just want to use our abilities for good."

"And learn more about the magical world. If we could find peace with the PID, then we could pool our resources."

"So says you two. I wanna rule the world," Nola says with a maniacal gleam in her eyes.

"Nola!"

"Kidding, kidding. I just wanna go out and party, and having the PID kidnap you, and terrorists tailing you kind of puts a dampener on that."

"So you're telling me you're going to challenge the PID and defeat these magical terrorists just so you can go out partying again?" the interviewer asks, aghast.

"Uh-huh," Nola says smugly, picking up a cupcake and licking all the icing off the top, then placing it back on the tray.

Again her sisters shoot Nola an admonishing look. "We're not. I just want a normal life again, even if I do have these abilities now," Maggie says. "I want to finish college and become a doctor."

"I just want to see my family again," Esmee says.

"What happened to them?"

"The PID told our families we were dead."

"Your families? But you're triplets, don't you have the same family?"

"No, our biological parents died in a car accident when we were babies," Maggie reveals.

"We've recently reunited," Esmee adds.

"How did that come about? Because of your abilities?"

"Sort of, yeah. We were all at the PID's facility at the same time, and we met our Grandmother."

"Your Grandmother? What was she doing at the PID facility?"

"They imprisoned her, which proves my point about them oppressing people with abilities," Nola says.

"At least you're all together now though." The triplets murmur their agreement. "And that's the end of the questions, girls. Thanks for joining me and answering them."

"Thanks for having us," Maggie says.

"Yeah thanks. Enjoy your cupcakes," Esmee adds.

"Bite me," Nola finishes, then the interviewer sees the grin on her face. "Actually this hasn't been so bad, so thanks!"

"It was my pleasure. Good luck with defeating the terrorists, and I hope you find some freedom from the PID."

The triplets exit the room, and the interviewer is left alone to enjoy the cupcakes Esmee baked for her.

  9. I like the second one, makes me want to know if she's afraid of literally being locked up, or if it's more of a figurative statement
