Camp NaNoWriMo Temptation

While reading the wonderful entries on Cherie Reich's 2nd Annual Flash Fiction Blogfest today, I became aware of Camp NaNoWriMo

Anyone who has been following my blog for a long time will know I started taking my writing seriously with NaNo, and that I'm a bit addicted to the process. Something about only having thirty days, and needing to reach a certain word count total makes me write like nobody's business. I'm addicted to the rush!

I have every intention of taking part in November's NaNoWriMo, and already have a story in mind, that's currently in the planning stages.

Now I've just heard about Camp NaNo, happening in June and August, and the temptation to participate is overwhelming.

But ...

I'm knee deep in edits for Sibylline Nights, have a project I'm working on with Kyra Lennon, and I've just agreed to be a CP for Sheena-kay Graham. I don't want to NOT do any of these things, I'm actually looking forwards to all of them.

But ...

It's NaNo. And if I do it in August and November I could get the ground work done on two projects (I can already here Henry the vampire from my planned paranormal drama clamouring for attention).

I think I will see how the rest of May and June go, and make a decision about NaNo in mid-July. I really hope I can fit it in.

  1. Lady, you are nuts! :p I can't even envision doing NaNo once, let alone twice in the same year! Although, if I didn't have to work on the computer all day before settling down to write, I might be tempted. Maybe lol.

  2. Technically, it would be three, as I wrote for a month solid to get SN finished! :)

    I can't help it, I'm an over-achiever!

I can see why, if you're working on the computer all day, setting down to do hours more writing would seem like a lot!

    1. I really wish I could, but there's no way I'll be done with my other commitments by June. :(

  4. Good luck if you go for it, Clare! I'll be doing it in November, and hoping to have completed my first novel by then!

  5. I'm attempting all three this year. I'm struggling to keep up with my commitments to, but I can't resist NaNo, I just can't. Hope you get through your work and can participate in August :)

    1. Thanks. I hope so too, because I really want to do it.

All three would be awesome, and I hope you're able to do it, and keep with your other commitments.

      Who needs sleep, right?! ;)

  6. I'm having a similar dilemma. I'd love to participate but I just really don't think I should attempt it. Unless, by some miracle, I get all my editing done by the end of May. Then I'm totally in.

    1. Fingers crossed you can get your editing done by then. If you don't, there's always August. ;)

  7. I know how tempting it is. I had originally planned to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo and NaNoWriMo, but then my writing plans changed. I'll definitely do NaNoWriMo, but a part of me wants to do the other even though I don't have time for it. LOL!

    1. That's exactly how I feel. And when I get a silly idea in my head I find it pretty hard to shake it.

  8. I don't think I'll do the camp but I may sign up for the JuMo (BuMo? No idea what the June one is called) instead.

    1. Aren't they the same thing? I thought they were, and you could pick June or August.

  9. Join ussss....I'm doing June as a Rebel, continuing my short story writing project that was supposed to happen but didn't quite in May. At first I thought, wow, it's crazy to try to NaNo more than once in a year. Then I thought, hey, why not? I've got word count goals that are falling behind. I can do this. We can do this.

    1. The temptation is so strong. And if it helps you complete a project or make some headway on it, then it can only be a good thing, right?

  10. that must be tempting! I've always wanted to participate in nano, but the schedule just never meshed. Ended up doing my own form of nano instead.

    1. I did that last year. November was busy for me, so I did it in October. I think that's still in the spirit of NaNo, as you're writing the first 50k of a novel in 30 days.

  11. I've always wanted to do NaNo but I don't know if I could cope with the pressure...how you can even think of doing more than one is beyond me, haha!

    1. You'd be surprised how easy it is once you get started. I never thought I'd be able to cope with it either, but I did.
